Happy Wednesday guys and gals! Hopefully you all are having a good week. I wanted to share with you guys a product I purchases earlier this year. I mentioned safflower oil in an earlier post as a top natural oil for your hair. But since I've been using this oil everyday, I can do an honest review. All I can say is, I'm in love with this oil. Check out my review and the results of using safflower oil.
I purchased my safflower oil from www.soapgoods.com. It was cost effective; 16 ounces for around $10.00 dollars. Safflower oil is not readily available like olive or coconut oils but can be purchased online at places like Vitacost, Amazon, or the Vitamin Shoppe. And the cost ranges from $6.00 to about $15.00.
What is safflower oil? Safflower oil is cold pressed from the seeds of a safflower; a highly branched, herbaceous, thistle-like annual plant. It is a high fat based natural oil good for cooking, great for your health, and excellent for your hair and skin. Safflower oil is transparent, odorless, and tasteless which makes it ideal to use in my hair and skin. It is highly moisturizing oil that easily absorbs into the skin and hair and makes both soft to the touch.
How does it help your hair? Natural oils are the best oils for your hair because there aren't any silicones, mineral oils, or other ingredients that doesn't wash away easily and can clog our hair pores. If you don't have a natural oil in your regimen, please get one or two for that matter. Safflower oil is rich in vitamin E and high in Omega 6 fatty acids and is 90% unsaturated fats. It is amazing on the scalp because it easily absorbs and improves circulation which in turn promotes hair growth. Safflower oil is ideal for damaged, dry hair because it coats the hair with moisturizing properties and protects the hair strands from outside elements.
How my hair has benefited from safflower oil? I heart this oil. The consistency is similar to that of olive oil so for my fine haired curlies you will use with a light hand. This oil is so moisturizing that I can go from very dry hair to soft moisturized hair by just spraying my hair with my lavender water and sealing with the oil. See pictures below. When sealing with safflower oil, my hair stays moisturized longer allowing me to get soft second day hair.
Remember the key to combat dry hair is to properly seal in the moisture with a sealant/oil. You want to choose one for your hair type. Thicker/kinkier natural hair will need a heavier oil. And if you are looking for an oil I would recommend safflower oil. Especially if you like olive oil, it effectively coats your hair strands leaving them both protected and moisturized.
Until next post, stay curly!!
